Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County (HFHVC) is pleased to welcome three new community members to their Board of Directors.

“We are thrilled that these three outstanding community members join our Board of Directors,” said Steve Dwyer, Executive Director, HFHVC. “They bring an abundance of professional achievements and diverse backgrounds which will help us increase our impact in our community and the affordable housing sector.”

Elissa Davalos – Elissa is a real estate broker with Keller Williams Realty in west Ventura County with 20 years of experience in the industry.  Elissa was raised in Oxnard and attended UCLA for her Bachelor’s degree before working in real estate in Beverly Hills and the Santa Barbara areas.  She is now a resident of Oxnard and a board member and 2017 Vice-President elect of the Ventura County chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals which seeks to promote home ownership among Hispanic families.  Elissa will serve on the Family Selection committee of Habitat to promote affordable home ownership opportunities.

Mike Adair – A life-long resident of Ventura County, Mike is a Commander and 24 year veteran of the Oxnard Police Department.  Mike holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Redlands and a Master of Science from California Lutheran University.  He has been a board member of the Oxnard Police Officers Association and most recently was the liaison to the Oxnard Chamber of Commerce.  Through his experiences as a police officer Mike has a deep appreciation for the value that safe, decent and affordable housing brings to families and communities.

Scott Squires – Scott is the owner of Squires Development and Real Estate providing a wide array of real estate services to clients, including rehabilitation of properties and the development of new residential properties.   Scott is a former head football coach at California Lutheran University and he has also coached professionally in the Canadian Football League, winning a Grey Cup.  He is a long-time supporter of Habitat for Humanity having participated on several Habitat build projects both in Ventura County and around the world.

About Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County

Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County is a locally-run and locally-funded affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. Over the past 30 years, 60 new home builds have provided homeownership opportunities for families in need and hundreds of homes have been repaired, providing a safe, clean, decent living environment for lower income homeowners.  The newer Preserve a Home program is being embraced by several cities and the County of Ventura as they see the positive impact Habitat has on families, neighborhoods and the community overall.  At Habitat for Humanity, we believe that everyone everywhere deserves a decent place to live. For Habitat’s new home program, low- to very-low income families are selected based on their need for housing, ability to repay an affordable mortgage, and willingness to partner with Habitat for Humanity.

We offer a “hand up”, not a hand out, empowering families who are willing to work hard to achieve their dream of homeownership.  Each Habitat for Humanity homeowner invests hundreds of hours to help build their home, and then purchases it with an affordable mortgage. Habitat currently has enough donated properties to build 28 decent homes for families in Ventura County.
